Belfast Golf Courses
Balmoral Golf Club
518 Lisburn Rd., Belfast Ireland BT9 6QX
This old Belfast golf course first opened for play in 1914. Itís short, only 6,276 yards, but the placement of bunkers and some ancient trees necessitate shot making. It plays for between 20-30 pounds.
Belvoir Park Golf Club
73 Church Rd., Newtonbreda, Belfast Northern Ireland BT8 7AM
This older golf course, established in 1927 by the British architect H.S. Colt, is just four miles from downtown Belfast. Another inland course, Belvoir Park (par-71, 7,082 yards) still offers its fair share of difficulty. The course has played host to numerous professional events over the years, including tour stops of the European PGA Tour. A round here is in the 20-50 pound range.
Royal County Down Golf Club
Newcastle, County Down, BT33 0AN Northern Ireland
This Belfast golf course, over 100 years old, is one of the oldest and most storied in all of Ireland. It's not far from Belfast; a little more than an hour's drive to Newcastle. The course is bordered by ocean cliffs and battered by fog and wind, as if the blind tee shots and extraordinary rough weren't enough. Royal County Down Golf Club is a semi-private club, visitors are allowed if they are members of a recognized club and have a handicap certificate. Royal County Down is one of the top ten ranked courses in the world.
Royal Portrush Golf Club - Belfast.com Editor's Pick
Dunluce Rd., Portrush, County Antrim BT56 8JQ Northern Ireland
This is the only Irish course to have hosted the British Open, back in 1951. Just an hour's drive from Belfast International airport, Royal Portrush is an ancient links course situated on cliffs overlooking the North Atlantic. It's an extraordinarily difficult golf course, with holes like the par-3 14th, that requires a 200-plus yard tee shot to a tiny green perched on the edge of a precipice, where anything long, short or right plummets miles to the ocean. The course is also famous for its fully stocked bar at the turn.
The Royal Belfast Golf Club
Station Road, Craigavad, Holywood BT18 OBP Northern Ireland
This is Ireland's oldest golf course, dating back to 1881. Just seven miles from downtown Belfast, the course is a "parkland" track, not quite as treacherous as its Oceanside companions. This Belfast area course is semi-private, but all visitors are welcome certain days of the week.
